Who Uses Tablets Most? - eMarketer

http://www.emarketer.com

Asian-Americans are avid users of new devices and are among the first to buy tablets and ereaders. They join US Hispanics on the top rungs of the technology early-adoption ladder.

eMarketer’s estimate of US tablet users shows that 14.4% of Asians have used tablets monthly this year, vs. 12.6% of Hispanics and just over 10% of blacks and whites. The gap will narrow as the years pass, but it will take until 2014 for whites in the US to reach the same tablets penetration level as Asian-Americans.

How A Pharmaceutical Giant Is Battling Malnutrition On The Ground In Haiti | Fast Company

http://www.fastcompany.com

All too often, corporate philanthropy involves dropping a wad of money on organizations that are doing work on an issue that the corporation "cares" about, and then saying goodbye. Bu sometimes, corporations actually bring their know-how and human capital to bear on a problem, in addition to just giving money. The global pharmaceutical company Abbott is taking the second path, focusing on long-lasting initiatives that can grow local economies in struggling areas. Case in point: Abbott's work to combat severe malnutrition in Haiti.

Are mobile health apps only for the rich? | HUB: HealthUnBound

http://www.healthunbound.org

Until recently, I was living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a war ravaged country among the poorest in the world. Just around the time when iPhones and apps were becoming fashionable among the tech-savvy, I was experiencing life stripped of all luxuries: I bathed with a bucket of water and spent my evenings reading by flashlight. The idea that mobile apps could ever benefit the millions of poor Congolese, many of whom lack electricity and are illiterate, seemed very far-fetched.

Dissecting Diversity: Understanding the Ethnic Consumer | Nielsen Wire

http://blog.nielsen.com

From what people watch to what they buy, behavior across ethnic groups in the U.S. is as diverse as the groups themselves. A closer look at the multicultural landscape by The Nielsen Company reveals how consumers utilize the same resources differently. The findings show that African Americans are TV-centric, Hispanics are savvy smartphone users, and Asians/Pacific Islanders are heavily wired to the Internet. In retail, African Americans shop the most frequently; Hispanics shop less often but spend more than others; and Asians/Pacific Islanders take the most advantage of deals and promotions.

The (Ethnic) Social Web Most Digital/Social Media Gurus Know Nothing About

http://adage.com

There's a powerful black digital and social networking world going on and many marketers and digital gurus don't have a clue. The value that most of these black platforms and social networking groups provide is a comfort level not experienced in some commercial mainstream platforms. They tend to deliver a FUBU affect (For Us By Us) in that visitors feel safe to be "real", and have a closed conversation.

Technology Trends Among People of Color: Minorities Use Social Media Differently

http://www.pewinternet.org

The story I’ve been telling so far is one where minorities either trail (or are at parity with) whites, but the story is much different when we look at the use of mobile technologies—especially mobile phones. Both blacks and English-speaking Latinos are more likely to own a mobile phone than whites. Foreign-born Latinos trail their Native-born counterparts in cell phone ownership, but this gap is significantly smaller than the gap in internet use between these groups.

Breaking down the healthcare language barrier

http://creationhealthcare.com

Earlier this year I wrote about how language barriers are creating a new digital health divide and I suggested that the single biggest barrier to successfully connecting patients online internationally is language. On the one hand, the Internet has broken down many boundaries and has changed the geography of healthcare, uniting patients and healthcare stakeholders all over the world so that people are not constrained by information available in their own country alone.
